How does it work?
Teeth whitening is a process in which various hydrogen peroxide gels are applied on the tooth enamel in conjunction with UV light. It is considered the most modern teeth whitening technology. With the use of ultraviolet light, it will trigger a reaction that cuts the color bonds in the enamel and dentin without damaging the enamel.
Does teeth whitening damage enamel?
Teeth whitening does not damage tooth enamel when applied by a trained professional.
Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?
The FDA recommends that pregnant or nursing mothers not get the treatment. Also, because we use bright UV lights, some people with epilepsy may want to forego the treatment. The technician at the first session will observe your teeth and gums and let you know if there are any additional concerns.
Can my fillings, crowns or veneers be whitened?
The short answer is no. Inorganic materials (anything other than your natural tooth) will not whiten. These are materials that don’t have pores to absorb the bleaching agent. It is best to have your teeth whitened BEFORE putting in a crown or filling this
way they can be matched to the newly whitened teeth.
How many shades will my teeth change?
Professional teeth whitening results vary between clients. The average person on the first session is 2- 4 shades. Some people may yield better results than others. It is important to speak to the technician about your teeth whitening goals. In many cases several sessions will be necessary to reach your brightest smile.
Should I get my teeth cleaned before whitening?
It is not necessary, but it is best to maintain your regular cleanings with your dentist. This is because whitening agents do not whiten plaque or tartar if there is build up,
How do I prepare for my first session?
You will receive an email that has necessary documents such as consent forms and a short questionnaire for you to complete and return. We suggest you use abrasive toothpaste for at least a few days, prior to the appointment. This will help prepare
the teeth as they absorb the whitening agent.
It is also suggested that you be prepared as you will be under the UV light for a minimum of 40 minutes. So bring your ear pods, if desired or just take a nap!
What can I expect after the session?
Aftercare is very important. We recommend that you avoid foods and beverages with color for at least 24 hours. This is because after the whitening agent is applied the tooth, pores on the enamel are still open. You’ll want to wait until they close so that you can maintain your new white smile.
How do I keep my smile white after treatment?
There are several things you can do to extend your white smile. One is to drink colored beverages (coffee, tea, red wine, punch, colored soda) from a straw. In addition, the technician will recommend some teeth whitening toothpaste, teeth whitening mouth rinse, and a special whitening gel pen that can be used at home.
How long will the tooth gem last?
6-24 months for the Swarovski crystals, Brilliance crystals and shaped gems. 6 -12 Months for the real gold jewels & real diamonds due to the extra weight on those gems.
Is getting a tooth gem painful?
This quick procedure attaches tooth gems using a high quality dental bond. (No pain or drilling.) With this semi-permanent procedure, tooth gems can last anywhere from 6 to 24 months.
Can I feel the gem on my tooth?
Tooth gems are 0.4mm or 0.9mm thick and 1.8mm to 3mm in diameter. You will initially feel something on your tooth, but a few days after the application you will get used to the new feeling.
Will the gem harm my tooth?
No. The gem is bonded to the enamel like a orthodontic bracket without any drilling or pain. The procedure and removal can be compared to the placement and removal of orthodontic brackets. When it is removed the tooth gem is simply popped off and the tooth will be polished to remove any remaining bonding material.
Does the gem impede brushing?
No, the presence of the tooth gem will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended not to use an electric tooth brush.
What if the gem falls off and I swallow it?
The gems are tiny glass crystals or gold gems. They have no sharp edges. It will basically come out “the natural way” the same as it went inside your body.
Can I still have my teeth cleaned by my dentist/hygienist?
Yes. You should continue to regularly have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Tooth gems will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the gem is sealed like a filling and will not let in any bacteria. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the gem with a soft point.
